December 1-5, 2008

"Together We Learn Better:

Inclusive Schools Benefit All Children"

       The 8th Annual Inclusive Schools Week™ (ISW) will  be celebrated December 1-5, 2008.  This year's theme is "Together We Learn Better: Inclusive Schools Benefit All Children."

     In honor of the 2008 Inclusive Schools Week, PASS is sponsoring its first annual "Inclusion Teacher of the Year Award," to highlight a PCSD teacher who embraces the philosophy of inclusion and consistently provides inclusive opportunites for students.

     Inclusive teachers are those who:

    • Make sure each and every student feels welcome and is learning;
    • Embrace the understanding that every student is unique and, therefore, learns differently; and
    • Understand that all children learn better if teaching is tailored to their abilities and interests

Nominate a Pittsford Teacher for the

2008 Inclusion Teacher Award!

Deadline for entries is December 19, 2008.

Inclusive teachers—those that individualize instruction and support to meet the needs of all children —exemplify the very best in education. Inclusive practices benefit ALL children both developmentally and socially by embracing the notion that all children will learn.

     *Inclusive Schools Week highlights and celebrates the progress of our schools in using inclusive practices to ensure a quality education for an increasingly diverse student population. This week is meant to encourage educators, students and families to improve academic achievement for all children and youth, including students with disabilities and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

     Pittsford Central School District is a caring school community with high expectations and goals for all students. Each student is unique and therefore learns differently. PCSD has a variety of inclusive practices, which are tailored to meet the needs, interests and personal learning styles of students. These practices include Co-teaching, strong collaboration between families and schools, training and support for parents and students and professional development for teachers.

     PCSD is proud to participate in Inclusive Schools Week and recognizes the supportive volunteers from Pittsford Advocates for Special Students (P.A.S.S.) who work toward these goals on behalf of PCSD students.
